ANNFSU today locked up the universities

KATHMANDU, Dec 24 - Demanding the immediate appointment of top officials, the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) on Sunday locked up administration offices of four different universities of the country.

The posts of Vice Chancellor, Rector and Registrar at Tribhuwan University, Nepal Sanskrit University, Purvanchal University and Pokhara University are lying vacant after the king-appointed officials were forced to tender their resignations in May this year.

The ANNFSU today locked up the universities stating that the absence of key administrators has hampered almost all activities of the universities including publication of regular results, the annual convocation program, and release of teachers' salary for the last seven months.

Likewise, in the absence of the top officials, the regular work of the university, students has been pushed back a year.

Despite repeated requests by the Nepal University Teachers' Association, various student associations and varsity staff, the government has continued to remain deaf even as some 55 public campuses are left sans their chiefs.

This has also affected the government plan to revise the old curriculum, considering the changed political context in the country.

Previously, ANNFSU students had reached also Baluwatar to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to this end. The students, however, were denied appointment even after an hour-long wait.
